Redwood does not contain harmful chemicals that may be damaging to your child's health. Backyard Adventures only uses redwood from suppliers that participate in the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Programs (SFI). 

Structure and Integrity The heart wood of the redwood tree is naturally resistant to insects and decay. Its tight, thin cell structure is unique to the redwood tree; therefore, moisture absorbs at a much lower rate than other woods, reducing the effects of decay.  Fire Resistant In a series of fire performance tests conducted on 12 commercial decking materials, California Redwood ranked number one in flame resistance, and has historically been used in fire walls and fire doors. These recent tests confirm redwood's superiority.

Why Choose Cedar? Backyard Adventures is proud to introduce Cedar into the production of its specialty playsets.  China Cedar (Cunninhamia Lanceolata) is fast becoming one of the prized species of lumber in the outdoor playground business. In ancient times this tree was used in temple building because of its aesthetic beauty and durability.  China Cedar has small tight knot structures, the wood will be less likely to develop small cracks emanating from knots.  The wood has a clear appearance and has a smooth and finished appearance.  The China Cedar has been tested in two laboratory trials for assessing natural durability.  In both tests the heartwood of this species experienced extremely low weight loss and was categorised as highly resistant to decay.  The China Cedar is classified by the USDA in the Cupressaceae or Cyprus family.  This cedar has been commonly been misnamed as a fir but does not belong to the fir family.  The lumber has the same characteristics as its cousin, the American redwood and cedars.
